Rental Requirements

Driver license and identity

• The primary renter and every approved additional driver must present a valid, unexpired driver's license with a photo.
• The license must remain valid for the full rental period.
• International licenses are accepted when they can be verified. If the license is not in English, an International Driving Permit or certified translation may be required.
• We may request a passport, local address, travel details, insurance information, or another form of identification when needed to verify the rental.

Age requirements

• The primary renter and every additional driver must be at least 21 years old.

Payment and deposit

• Payment must be completed using a method approved by Alani Car Rental Corp. and confirmed for the booking.
• A standard refundable rental payment deposit or card authorization hold of $200 is required before pickup.
• The deposit may be applied to unpaid rental charges, approved extensions, cleaning, missing fuel, tickets, lost keys, roadside or technician service, and other lawful non-damage charges. It is not a damage deposit or advance payment for possible vehicle damage.
• No amount may be charged or withheld for vehicle damage unless the cost and the renter's responsibility have been agreed to in writing or determined as provided by law. Any remaining deposit balance is returned after the final calculation of non-damage charges.
• The renter remains responsible for rental charges, extensions, late returns, tickets, damage, cleaning, fuel, keys, roadside service, and other charges listed in the rental agreement or online terms.

Insurance

• Liability insurance is required to operate a vehicle in Hawaii.
• The renter must provide accurate insurance information when requested.
• If the renter is at fault for damage, the renter is responsible for the applicable insurance deductible up to $1,000, as stated in the signed rental agreement.
• The deductible is not charged automatically. Damage costs and responsibility must be agreed to in writing or determined as provided by law.
• If an accident, damage, theft, or claim occurs, the renter must notify Alani Car Rental Corp. immediately and cooperate with any insurance, police, or claim process.
• If damage is not covered by insurance or is caused by prohibited use, negligence, unauthorized drivers, intoxication, or other excluded conduct, the renter may be fully responsible for the loss.

Additional drivers

• Additional drivers must meet the same requirements as the primary renter.
• Additional drivers must be disclosed and approved by Alani Car Rental Corp. before driving the vehicle.

Cancellation and changes

• There is no automatic free-cancellation period unless Alani Car Rental Corp. confirms one in writing for a specific booking.
• Reservation deposits and advance payments are non-refundable when the renter cancels, does not appear for pickup, or stops responding, unless the written booking confirmation expressly states otherwise.
• A reservation is not considered canceled until Alani Car Rental Corp. confirms the cancellation.
• To change pickup time, return time, vehicle class, or rental length, contact us as early as possible.

Pickup and return

• Pickup and return are normally at the Alani Car Rental Corp. pickup location shown in your confirmation.
• The vehicle must be returned on time, to the approved location, with the same fuel level and in the same general condition as received.
• Late returns may be charged at $50 per hour or at the applicable daily rate, plus any related costs.
• One-way returns or returns to a different location require prior written approval.

Early return

• For a voluntary early return, used rental days are recalculated using the standard daily rate that was in effect on the pickup date for a rental of the actual shorter duration. Each started 24-hour period counts as a full rental day.
• Alani Car Rental Corp. retains 30% of any positive balance remaining after recalculation. A higher non-refundable percentage applies only if it was disclosed in writing in the booking confirmation before pickup.
• The balance remaining after the early-return retention and other amounts due is refunded. If there is no positive balance, no refund is due.
• The detailed early-return calculation and mechanical-failure exception are stated in the signed rental agreement and the Rental Terms and Conditions.
